There are still many hurdles to jump across. I believe that one day all people will have access to the same education and health services. But to date, my community’s health services have always been more for the wealthy and upper classes.
When did the decision to make it a lifestyle choice for the many become less of a decision for the few?
A long time ago, back when I was living in New York on the Upper West Side, I realized that my community was not as progressive on sexual health as I had thought. I have witnessed other people in my community get tested and have their reproductive organs removed through Planned Parenthood, yet I don’t see anything about it at my community services.
It took a little time and effort, but through my research, my blog and my friends, I have discovered that this could be a huge step forward, not just for me, but for others across the country. There are so many hurdles ahead of us. But as we take another step forward and make it easier for people to come out and become advocates for the rights of our community, we must also consider the lives that still aren’t.
