No. When your house is powered by a magnet, its magnetic field acts as a generator that draws on the electricity available within. This energy comes from a magnetic field located at the poles of a magnet, and it is not directly generated by the magnet itself, but by a field created from the magnetic field at the points of the magnet (as shown in the diagram).
Since the earth itself is a magnet, it would not produce a magnetic field outside of its own surface. However, because the magnetic poles are located within the earth, they can be observed as well as measured – a process termed magnetometer. It is possible, then, to measure whether the electrical electricity generated by a magnet is drawn towards the earth’s poles, either as a positive or negative polarity (such as through the use of a magnetometer). The electricity does not flow away from the poles of the magnet, but is transferred between them in an alternating, self-reacting form. If the electrons are carried out in a positive, positive voltage (which is the polarity of the magnet), they will go to the poles of the magnet via the electric current flowing through the coil and out of the magnet. If the electrons are carried out in a negative, negative voltage, they will go to the poles of the magnet via the electric current flowing through the coil and out of the magnet.
If you are in a position to take a magnetic field into account, it may well be true that it is possible to generate electricity while living off the grid using either a permanent magnet or a small portable magnet, or both!
How much electricity does a magnet generate?
When a magnet is attached to a permanent magnet, the magnet can be said to be generating a magnetic field. The magnetic field generated by a permanent magnet is quite small, and can be measured as a straight line. However, when a permanent magnet is attached to a small magnet, the magnet will generate a magnetic field in a direction perpendicular to the normal magnetic field that is produced by the permanent magnet. Therefore, using a magnetometer (a tool where a charge is drawn into the field and measured, and measured again when discharged) it may be possible to obtain a figure of merit to figure out the quantity of electricity generated by a magnet.
For small magnets, an estimate of the total amount of electricity generated is not possible, but it will be possible to estimate the amount of electricity generated by a tiny permanent magnet to get an idea of how effective the magnet is.
