No, 3 weeks might be a viable goal. Or one that would be easily achievable in the same amount of time.

The point is that it’s impossible to learn and understand every guitar lick in a session. Even someone who has the most experience can’t always learn every single lick.

But the reason is simple. Because there are so many different guitarists (or guitarists, if you prefer), and they’re going to want to learn and master a few certain licks before moving to the next. When you know how to play a lick, which one is next on the list will be in your mind. It depends on the other songs you play.

This is not to say that you can learn everything by learning only the first few seconds of a lick. That’s impossible. But it shouldn’t be considered as a reason to not learn the “basic basics” of playing a lick. If someone has a guitar teacher that tells him to learn just the first 30 seconds of a lick, well, he may need to start learning all of those.

When you know your stuff and know how to play everything else, you can learn a few licks and move on.
