Using Smart Objects and their Properties

Smart Objects (or Smart Objects as you call them) are an essential tool in Photoshop for editing photos. Smart Objects can make adjustments to objects in an image, even if a layer already has the object in place. For example, if you are editing a picture on one layer and you have selected all the objects in the layer (the selected layer), you can now use the Smart Object tool to select multiple objects with a Smart Select.

Smart Objects provide immediate visual feedback whether each object is selected or not, and can enable you to make very fast adjustments. For example, to make the hair on the female character in the above image look like a little curl, you can adjust the thickness of the hair. Select all the hair objects, and your image changes.

For more information on using smart objects, see Using Smart Objects to Quickly Correct Photoshop Errors.

The following is an example of making the hair curl slightly more round: Select all the hair objects, and click on the Smart Object Tool. Adjust the thickness of the hair by dragging the layer down until the thickness of the hair decreases
