What does it cost?
Lightroom is a free software (in the form of a collection of programs) for editing and creating photo and video.
In order to use Lightroom, you need a computer, and in order to use Lightroom you need to have all of the programs installed for the OS of your computer (MacOS is not included). The only way to create new photos and videos in Lightroom is to add the pictures to an image, and then you can click through the layers until you reach the correct “Image” to add to the Lightroom collection.
There is not just one computer to use Lightroom with: Lightroom supports Windows, Linux, MacOS, and iOS. Lightroom also supports the iPad.
Lightroom is also not free: you have to pay a small fee (US$19.99 for Lightroom Pro) before you can install it. All new purchases of the Lightroom software will come with access to the free Lightroom Education software (which is what all teachers of course need).
In addition, there will be a Lightroom Pro license available for those who want to extend the limits of lightroom for themselves or their students.
Do I need to wait for Lightroom to catch up with the state of photo editing in my country before I start using it in my project?:
Probably not, but if you know that any photo editing software is not working with your desired results or if you feel that there is a need for a better, professional photo editing tool, you should definitely check to see if Lightroom is compatible with your country.
How does Lightroom work with my camera, and how does Lightroom know what to show me?:
Lightroom shows you what you should be seeing in your pictures. If you have a camera, Lightroom has the software to show you what it sees.
What Lightroom can not show you are things like flash effects, reflections, and other imperfections such as scratches. Lightroom cannot take an image of an object without it showing up, and it can show you all the mistakes it can find in your picture too, so you should never go by what Lightroom can show unless you ask Lightroom why it is showing certain effects.
When you export and put the exported file in Lightroom, it is going to have a ton of “features”, both for the individual pictures on file and for the file that Lightroom will load to preview it. These features cover
