Here are some good tips, which I’m sure will help with the process.
Don’t try to imitate anyone, but think of “How would a fellow ventriloquist sound?”
Do as close to your voice as possible, don’t try to imitate someone’s voice unless it’s a good imitation.
Try to be spontaneous. Say “How is the weather today,” “What day was it today?”
Try to let the audience notice your enthusiasm. If you’re on an improv troupe, take every opportunity to engage the audience, especially if you’re the improviser.
Try not to be nervous. That means do a little practice with your voice and make it a part of your routine.
Welcome to this week’s installment of my monthly column.
A lot had changed since I wrote the previous article. New York’s mayoralty race was won by Democrat Bill de Blasio. The New England Patriots and other team sports franchises won over fans and advertisers. The NFL became a big issue nationally. A number of big players decided they’d rather play in other countries now than pay big bucks to play in the U.S.
In the sports world, though, there is still plenty to like about the United States and its teams. The NFL is still a very powerful force in America. And this time last year it was looking to add an international twist. Then Donald Trump showed the world his true colors. As a candidate and now as president, Donald Trump has done more than anyone else to help the NFL make sure that his name still seems to be associated with a football locker room. So far, Trump appears to have gotten plenty of support from Americans. And he’s using that endorsement to go after NFL owners.
Now what? Let’s go back in time to when the league was beginning to look to China.
In 2005 the NFL and other teams visited China to try an expansion deal there. It was one of the three most-visited international markets during 2005. It also featured the biggest prize in the global game of soccer, the World Cup, and the first World Cup held outside the United States. China was the highest-rated market for television and radio, while the number 4 ranking—the United States—saw the highest number of soccer fans. By 2010, the league said that it had a deal in place to broadcast the game live in China.
China was a huge draw during the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing
