I have no clue!
Why did you start this business?
My original business goal was to start a photography website that allows you to sell your photos for use on a free forum. It’s actually a pretty great idea, but it’s more of a hobby than a job. I’ve actually had a bunch of people who approached me during the Kickstarter campaign, asking about making photos on Shutterstock. I thought it was pretty cool, and then there were really not too many people who had done it before. I was like, “What if those were your main source of income?”
The reason I chose to start my business now, instead of in the beginning, was it’s the first website to allow you to sell your photos for profit (that means profit from advertising/streaming), I also decided to make my website even more attractive (since people are looking for this kind of thing), and I just think it’s a much more fun experience.
It’s a great opportunity to try something new — to really try and do something that you might not do for a living.
Why do you think Flickr was worth $6 Billion when it was founded?
The reason Flickr was worth a billion dollars at its founding has to do with the fact that for many years it was considered the most important file platform in the entire history of the internet. When I was a junior in high school, I knew almost all of the people who were using Flickr and Flickr had a pretty bad rep because it was an extremely slow, clunky, and glitchy service, and the fact the service was so limited even by today’s standards made it kind of scary for many people.
What is your vision of the future of photography?
For the past decade I’ve been working on improving my skills in photography, and my goal is to build a new generation of digital imaging professionals. After all, if you can’t sell your photos for profit, who does?
