How can you prepare saffron to eat?
“Eat lots of saffron,” says Shikha. “It is a very powerful health tonic and can help you calm the mind down mentally as well as mentally calm your digestive system,” she adds. “The smell alone is powerful.” “It keeps you relaxed when you’re tired and it helps your body relax during sleep.”

How effective is saffron for you?
“It’s a lot of saffron – maybe it’s an herbal tonic for this day and age.”
But what about those who want to know the weight of the evidence?
Shikha tells us not to buy in to any single study – there can be so many other possible issues with saffron. That said, the studies that have been done do indeed show benefits:
In a 2010 article in the Journal of the American Medical Association, Shikha reports on two small studies done in 2006 of people consuming saffron twice a day (the researchers were blinded to the group they were in), “which showed an increase in serotonin and a reduction in cortisol.”
Saffron also was found to significantly influence blood pressure. “We found a decrease in blood pressure in participants who consumed saffron twice a day,” says Shikha. “People who consumed saffron had lower pressure than those who did not consume saffron.”
The benefits of saffron may not be just limited to the immune system and the brain. In 2006, Shikha published another article in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, “Saffron supplementation decreases serum and whole blood IgA and serum IgG as well as plasma C-reactive protein (CRP). A reduction in blood pressure has been reported in patients receiving saffron.”
